Medical Emergency

Praise God!  Once again we have come to share with you of what the LORD IS doing.  Last year in July we shared with you about a young girl named Denavensi, who needed our help.  We are thankful to God that he used you and us to bring life back to this young girl.  She is now healthy and growing well.

I have shared on this blog with you of our monthly free medical clinics through WBAMM that we do in different poor and disadvantaged villages where the health services are still very scarce.  Yesterday, March 16, 2013, we held a medical mission in ANOTHER remote village in Uganda in the district of BUGIRI.  Our God was faithful, as we were able to treat more than 305 patients with both dental and medical treatment and of those, 27 people gave their lives to Christ.
AS we were assessing the patients and giving treatment, a young 10 year old boy by the name of NSEKO MAGIDU was brought to me by his poverty stricken mother and I was so touched by his condition. This boy came in great pain, was complaining of pain in the pelvic region and in the lower back, and had difficulty in movement (posterior hip dislocation).  The mother gave us a history of the boy falling down into a pit about 4 ½ months ago, during a time of playing with other kids.  Due to lack of money to take the young boy to the hospital, the boy was just taken home.

Posterior hip dislocation occurs when the head of the thigh bone (femur) slips out of its socket in the hip bone (pelvis).  In approximately 90% of patients, the thigh bone is pushed out of its socket in a backwards direction (posterior dislocation).
Being a 10 year old patient with the old hip dislocation, we suspect some more fractures at the head of femur that may be mal-united, so  the urgent need is for the boy to taken to the hospital for surgical intervention and treatment.  This kind of condition usually takes 2 to 3 months in children for healing after surgery.
Estimates of the costs are high, due to the fact that a lot of work needs to be done on this young boy. Total cost is estimated to be around $1300.  The breakdown of the costs involved is as follows:
$250 ambulance transport needed (The journey from the main hospital to this village is a 6-7 hour drive, one way.)
$750 for surgery and treatment (as both limbs are involved)
$300 rehabilitation and crutches
As God has been using you in many ways to support and stand with us, this is also another noble cause for us to support and affect the life of this boy positively.
If you would like to give towards this great cause, please feel free to contact Mary Linette, myself, or email us at fortheluvofafrica@gmail.com.
Please pray and agree with us as we move out with a heart of compassion towards this young boy!!  God bless you and thank you for standing with us!!!

LIKE DENAVENSI, MAGIDU'S LIFE IS WORTH SAVING!!!

Yours in Christ,
Dr. Gilbert, Uganda Africa

Medical Shipment Update

I hope this good news finds you doing well.

Praise God, I know many of you participated or heard of the medical shipment of two large crates of medical supplies and equipment, and dental supplies that weighed about 250 pounds each, that were shipped from Evansville, Indiana, USA to Uganda, Africa approximately 7 months ago. You may have remained with questions as to whether this shipment was delivered to us.  The good news is that we received the shipment on March 1, 2013.

It left Evansville on August 23, 2012, traveled to Louisiana, was loaded onto a large cargo ship, traveled the Atlantic Ocean, and arrived in Mombasa, Kenya on November 2, 2012.  It then had to go through a long screening process with the Kenya port and medical authority, was taken by truck to Kampala, Uganda and then had to be examined by the Ugandan medical authority.  The process took long for us to receive, due to it being the first international medical shipment we have ever done.  Hopefully, this means that as we continue to work together, that God will provide more shipments, and it will be easy to reach us.

We (Africans) are so excited and happy to receive such a donation of the medical shipment.  As you know the health care system in Africa is still of low standard, we do not have enough medical facilities, and over 70% of Africans cannot afford the cost of health care, especially people in the slums and villages.  This makes us to feel so proud when GOD PROVIDES MUCH NEEDED EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES.

We so appreciate those who donated the equipment and supplies to us, those who collected them, those who invested their money in transporting them to Africa, and everyone who played any role in achieving this.

We thank GOD that His timing is perfect!!!  This medical shipment arrived when we had just finished an outpatient medical clinic, which helped many people who were disadvantaged.  We did not have enough medical supplies, so some of these are going to be used right away in this clinic, so that we are able to improve the health of the African people.

We conduct free medical clinics (missions) on a monthly basis, so we plan to use the remaining medical supplies, reading glasses, dental supplies, etc. in reaching out to other needy people in the near future, who are far from this medical clinic facility.

Again we extend our vote of thanks to you for believing in us and standing with us in making this big cause a reality.

We highly welcome everyone to join us in “For the Love of Africa.” Please pray for us as we strive to be obedient to God’s will and call in all things.

Below are some of the pictures that were taken of the medical shipment when we received them.
